"It all started when
I was 10 years old
spending my summer in Vancouver,
when I first learned
calligraphy from my Nana Flora"
Carla's artistic journey is a remarkable tale of passion and legacy. Her artistic prowess in calligraphy was a treasured gift handed down by her beloved Nana.
Carla was born and raised on the island of Oahu in Hawaii where her Nana cared for her until the age of 3. At this time her Nana had to move back to Vancouver, Canada but bond created in those first few years made the distance even greater. So as soon as Carla turned 5 years old, her mother allowed her to spend summers with her Nana in Vancouver. Being an artist herself, Nana introduced Carla to many forms of art which she loved. Then at the age of 10, she introduced her to calligraphy. This was her favorite of all and perfect to practice with all of their letters to each other. Since then, calligraphy has always had a season in Carla's life and 16 years ago she turned her passion into a thriving business.
Just as her Nana had mentored her, Carla pays it forward by nurturing and guiding emerging artists. Her love for "live events" serves as a testament to her dedication to showcasing her talents and fostering the talents of others in the vibrant world of art. Carla's journey is an inspiring example of how art can be a legacy, a livelihood, and a source of inspiration for generations to come.
